The Cancer Patient Support Program provides supportive and rehabilitative services to cancer patients and their families in the Burlington, Vermont area.

Facing a diagnosis of cancer is a time of fear, anxiety and questioning. Patients
and families often do not know where to turn for help. Trying to understand and cope with the challenges that arise following a diagnosis can be difficult. CPSP is here to help you and your family address concerns, answer your questions and assist you through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

and their families.

The Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP) has experienced a change in board leadership with the induction of our new president Beth Taylor-Nolan and several other board members. This change has been a catalyst to describe our mission and look at future directions for the program. Our mission statement for CPSP is: To provide hope for tomorrow for cancer patients and their families.

The Cancer Patient Support Program is a not for profit organization dedicated to offering professional support services to Fletcher Allen Health Care and the community. Our commitment is to provide services at no charge. In 10 years our mission has not changed; however, the needs of our community have increased. Therefore, last year our staff had an average of 385 patient contacts a month and so far this year that average has grown to 430 contacts. These contacts include individual psychotherapy, couples and family counseling, support groups, peer to peer support, nutritional counseling and financial needs assessment.

Our new board members are eager to jump in and help with fundraising efforts to continue this important work. Many of these volunteers have been touched by cancer and relate to the distress and uncertainty that accompanies the diagnosis.

As a survivor and caregiver, I am overwhelmed by their dedication. It is inspiring to me to see these busy community members take time from their schedules and work so tirelessly to support friends and neighbors affected by cancer, many of whom they will never have the privilege to know. As coordinator and on behalf of the CPSP, we want you to know, and to take strength in the fact, that you are not alone. It is a promise that will be brought to life through our comprehensive program delivered in a uniquely human, compassionate way. We pursue a significant goal here: to help you through the journey ahead.
